Tale of Many Painters - Azogs Hunters (Month 2)

"Azog: [in Black Speech] Do you smell it? The scent of fear? I remember your father reeked of it... Thorin, son of Thrain."
Azog The Pale Orc,  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hunter Orc progress Month 2!

Below is my progress for month 2 - complete another full warband and hero to lead them.  I have painted 12 hunter orcs on foot and painted Bolg to lead them, along with mounted Narzug.

Here are my progress pictures:

I also played James's Fiefedoms army and beat them, so I am on maximum points.

So for March I plan to paint another hero and another 12 warriors!
Fimbul, get yourself ready.

Hobbit Batrep: Gundabad Orcs v Dale (ish)

"There are no safe paths in this part of the world. Remember you are over the Edge of the Wild now, and in for all sorts of fun wherever you go. "
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

What a challenge
Well, with Sam leaving the South for pastures new Rick arranged a battle, but this time instead of 3 players all-against-all, we challenged Sam to play two games simultaneously...

This is the first report, where Sams new Gundabad Army led by Bolg, with Ogres, Berserkers and Gundabad orcs take on Ricks Dale, Woses, combination.

Who will win in this challenge - Sam (playing two games at once) V Rick... pleas note I wasn't paying to much attention to this fight as I was playing same on the other 1/2 of the table!

Ricks Dale and Woses Army

Sams new Gundabad Army led by Bolg, with Ogres, Berserkers and Gundabad orcs
Gundabad! Bolg, with Ogres, Berserkers and Gundabad orcs

The armies advance

Rick holds and waits for the Gundabad army

Sam moves forward, berserkers charging as quick as they can

Gundabad start to take blow pipe fire

nearly there...

The lines finally clash

Dale archers shoot at the flanking Gundabad Berserkers

Treebeard holds the centre, with Dale and woses on either side

What a clash, Gundabad ogre, orcs and Bolg, now on foot!

Ogre take hits

The fight can go either way

Treebeard and Bolg fight it out

Um... that'll be a hurl then!

but a poor dice roll by Rick

Gundabad start to pull the fight back, cutting through woses and Dale

Legolas charges in to help balance the fight

Ghan buri Ghan pulls back, the Gundabad Berserkers charge in

this can go either way

Treebeard is proving to be formidable in the middle

Both side are struggling to make head way

Another hurl, could this swing it Dales way?

The battle field so far...

Legolas vs Ogre...

Good bye Ogre!

Dale and Treebeard finally break the Gundabad army and the battle ends, Rick wins!

Final thoughts
Man of the Match:
Treebeard!
Sam was always going to have tricky fight, playing two games simultaneously, but he did well to keep a track of the battle, a testament to his skill and experience playing SBG.

Gundabad orc look really nice, the berserke'rs lovely, but the Ogres - wow they were lovely, good paint job and a lovely fielded army by Sam Page.  Ricks Warriors of Dale were also superbly painted, just a shame he didn't have a whole army of them!

Man of the Match
This was only ever going to be between Bolg and Treebeard... this time it wasn't the Gundabad General, but the Ent.

Hobbit Batrep: Gondor v Morannon Orcs

"The Age of Men is over. The Time of the Orc has come."
Gothmog to his army in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

For Gondor!
This months battle saw Rick using his new battle mat, decorated with the Gondor houses he made for me a few years ago. He fielded a Gondor army, led by mounted Boromir while I had a Mordor (Morannon army) with Gothmog and a Troll Chieftain.

Gondor Town - The first Siege of Osgiliath

Gondor deploys

Objective markers on Minas Tirith board

Mounted Gondor, deploy behind the fountain guard

Mordor deploy next with Troll Chieftain and Morannon orcs

Another warband of Marannon

Mordor advance to the objectives

Gondor edge forward and fire a few bow shots

Enter Boromir's warband

Gondor move slowly forward

Finally the armies meet

The cavalry are caught at the rear and struggle to find space to charge Mordor

Faramir, leads the knights round the Gondor line

My troll cheiftain, seeing the threat removes Faramir from his horse

The troll Chieftain is making short work of the mounted Gondor troops

Boromir, sensing the danger moves up the the left flank

The troll Chieftain clears the way for more Morannon orcs

Gothmog, still in the middle of the fight

The battle field so far, with Gondor keep Osgiliath?

Gondor rally! but the Troll Chieftain, charges Boromir

Gondor are starting to pull back

Bormir and the troll head-to-head, meanwhile Gothmog is now without a warg!

Boromir is forced back

The looming troll

Shaman and banner hug the back of the line, re-rolls and fury saves

Gondor are wavering

Gondor, struggle to hold and have all but lost

The last of the warriors of Minas Tirith hold the line

Gothmog, in the midst of the battle

Morannon Orc on an objective

Morannon Orc on an objective

2 xMorannon Orcs on an objective

With Gondor down to 25%, the game still called

Win to Mordor 5 - 0 Gondor

Final thoughts
This was always going to be tough for Gondor to beat the Morannon army, Boromir unfortunately couldn't swing the tide in favour of the men. The Morannon troops are very tough and are a match for most armies, so when faced with the men of Minas Tirith, it was only going to go one way.

Man of the Match
Man of the Match - Gothmog
This was easy,  Gothmog was a again able to use might form other heroes to boost his own fights and was able to hold the centre of the battle field

The Troll Chieftain was also a very good choice, hold Boromir on the edge of the fight and holding the flank for Mordor.

This was a fun battle, with nice figures, scenery and gaming mat.
